Arabic our beautiful language. We love it and feel its sweetness. Arabic is the largest Semitic language. More than 280 million people speak it as their first language and 250 million as their second language . It has been used since the 4th century CE . Most native speakers live in the Arab world. Standard Arabic is widely taught in schools, universities and is used in media. During the 7th century Arabic letters were dotted in order to avoid ambiguity. Arabic has lent many words to other languages and during the Middle Ages Arabic was a major vehicle of culture in Europe especially in science and philosophy. We hope our language retain its importance and decorate our life with its beauty.
Adventure Holiday
Hi Omar
How are you ? Some say that desire to experience danger is normal and healthy , so we look for experience during our holidays . The first important advantage is contact with nature.
I would like to tell you something about our last holiday. Last Summer, my friends and I went for a vacation to Lattakia coastal area where the coast stands face to face in front of the beautiful mountains.
At the beach, we swam and tried windsurfing but I was not good at that, so I fell into water twice. We then went to a mountains. The weather was very nice and cool, so we went on a trek and tried rock climbing though it was dangerous .In the evening we sat around fire and the dinner was so delicious then we drank coffee while watching the moon and the stars ..
Best regards Ali
A Film you have seen
We always see films on TV at home. One of the films I saw was called " The Borders" . The main character in the film is the famous Syrian actor Dureed Laham. The film speaks about the difficulties the Arab citizen faces while crossing Arabic borders. It stresses the importance of Arab unity. The performance of the actors was very fantastic and so is the plot. The film includes may humorous scenes which reflect the bad situation of our Arab nation and make us feel the necessity of Arab unity. The script is very fine and was written in a beautiful and easy language which could be understood by most Arab people.
Write a story beginning with the words " It was a beautiful spring day " .. " And finishing with the words " …we all felt very happy to be back home.
Last week, we decided to travel to Damascus to visit a tourist attraction called Al Zabadani. It lies near Damascus. It is a famous summer resort, about 45 kilometers from Damascus. The roads were covered with snow and the weather was very cold because we went in winter. After we arrived in Damascus we started driving towards it. My friend was driving quickly and suddenly the car skidded to the side of the road and turned upside down, but luckily emergency services came to our aid quickly and took us to hospital but nobody was hurt, so they let us out and then we returned home and we all felt happy to be back home safe.
Imagine that you are sitting at al Nofara café , listening to Abu Shadi reading a story. Write about your experience.
Al Nofara café lies near the eastern gate of the Uamyyad Mosque in Damascus where Abu Shadi works as a storyteller. Every day after sunset he arrives at the café and sits on his chair with his sword across his knees. After drinking tea, he starts telling his tale which is usually about Al Zaher Baybars, the Mamluk Suktan or other historical story which usually teaches values such as courage respect and the love of people. I enjoy sitting and listening to this great storyteller and his performance. Abu Shadi is much more than a storyteller . He is a great poet, actor, comedian and historian, all rolled in one. I invite you to go and listen to Abu Shadi.

Cars, buses and other kinds of vehicles are very important for us. Our city is one of the most beautiful cities, but we suffer from some difficulties concerning the narrow streets of bad quality. Some streets in the city are very clean but others are always dirty. The number of buses in service from the main square to all parts of the city is very limited. However, the bus fares are quite cheap . There are now a great number of taxis and private cars which cause traffic jams and they also cause a great deal of pollution. Another problem is that there are a little number of parking places. On the other hand there is a train station which carry a great number of people ,so you can take a train to other cities easily .I hope all traffic problems will be solved soon.
Traffic problems in Syria
Syria has the same traffic problems which are found in other countries. The number of cars and buses in the streets has become larger that the streets became busy with them and usually people get stuck for a long time in traffic jams. In the streets there a little number of zebra crossing to help people cross streets easily. In addition to that cars cause much air pollution which affects people's health and cause death. Over 2000 people die every year in road accidents. Some people try to change their lifestyles and try to use bikes or walk but most people still want to use cars. The government tries to solve the problem by opening new streets and widen the old ones and building bridges to make the traffic movement easier.

Write a letter to your local newspaper giving your opinion about a local problem.
Dear sirs:
Our area is near the city and has a beautiful nature and many fantastic landscapes . We knew that a company is going to build a cement factory in our area . Though I know that many people will work and get jobs in this project but I am totally against the idea. One bad effect of this project is pollution of the air in the area which will affect people's health, especially children and the beautiful scene of the trees in the area on which the factory will be built will disappear for ever. I am writing and to municipal authorities trying to express my opinion and also the disagreement of most people in the area and ask you to stop it. Leave our beautiful land alone.

Think about the most unusual adventure of your own life . Write a letter to your friend describing the following things: - where it happened - when it happened - who was with you - the weather - unexpected events - why you enjoyed it or didn't enjoy it - what was especially memorable about this adventure.
Last year we were camping in a mountain near the sea. We went there to go on treks and rock climbing. One morning , my friends and I went trekking and enjoyed watching beautiful landscapes and drank the water of pure springs. In the afternoon, the weather was very fine and sunny and we decided to go swimming and playing basketball at the beach. I tried to dive but I didn't notice that the area was full of jellyfish , so I had many bad bites and red spots especially on my legs and got out of the water feeling pain. However, I've enjoyed this adventure.
The problem of traffic and safety for children in your area
You have researched the problem of traffic and safety for children in your area and you are not happy with the results . Write a report for your local authority L council . page 61 activity
Dear sirs:
I would like to tell you that I have studied carefully the problem of traffic and safety for children in our area and had the following results: The traffic is a real chaos. The streets are narrow and have many curves. The traffic lights are few and sometimes they broke down and cause confusion .There are no zebra crossings to help people crossing the streets. The number of traffic police in the streets is little and many children are killed every year. I suggest more zebra crossings and speed limits and building a bypass to reduce traffic jams in the streets and that parents or teachers help little school children in the street.
The Quality of Programs TV
Since TV was invented, it became an important thing in our life. Through TV we know all the news of the world, see films and watch scientific programs documetaries. It also presents different kinds of programs which can be useful to children such as cartoons. Some programs contain things which may cause harm to them, especially those which contain violent scences.Children shouldn't see such programs and if we want to see them, they should be broadcast at special times while children are asleep. In my opinion, the government should control the quality of programs on TV |
